Japan Heritage "Yatsushiro, Hometown of Stonemasons" Toyo District

Famnic Tour!

Harvest the world's best citrus fruit, "Banpeiyu," with local producers and enjoy all-you-can-eat strawberries in the fields!

Experience cooking seasonal bento and banpeiyu made by a local food expert from Kumamoto!

The Toyo district of Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is located where steep mountains meet plains. Blessed by the vast Satoyama countryside, rice terraces and terraced fields have been built on the mountainside along the streams since ancient times. The hometown of the stone bridge building group "Taneyama Stonemasons," Yatsushiro's stone building culture was recognized as a Japanese Heritage site in 2020. At Hashinaga Farm in this mountain village, you can enjoy harvesting in the fields of "banpeiyu," the world's heaviest citrus fruit, and enjoy all-you-can-eat strawberries in Kuro Farm's fields, which are grown using clean river water. For lunch, participants will interact with local producers through seasonal bento lunches made by a master of Kumamoto's local cuisine and a banpeiyu cooking experience. You can enjoy a leisurely rural time in the great outdoors by strolling around the stonemasons' village and soaking in hot springs.
