Experience the blessings born from the land of Bungo-Ono!

Walking and cycling

Bungo-Ono City is located in the eastern part of Kyushu, in the southern part of Oita Prefecture, and with an area of approximately 603 square kilometers, it is the third largest city in Oita Prefecture. The Ono River, one of Kyushu's largest rivers, flows through the center of the city, and it is surrounded by the Kuju Mountain Range, Mount Aso, and the Sobo-Kamata Mountain Range, making it a lush green land.

The entire city of Bungo-Ono was designated a Japanese Geopark in September 2013.

The land of Bungo-Ono City was formed by the great pyroclastic flow of Aso 120,000 years ago and has been blessed with many blessings.

The most notable of these is the mineral-rich water that comes from the Sobokan mountain range.

People have had many connections with water in order to survive, through waterways, stone bridges, stone Buddha statues, shrines, and sake brewing.
Along the 12km Kyushu Olle Oku-Bungo Course and in the Ogata Plain, which you can cycle around, you can see many traces of our ancestors' coexistence with nature. You can see rural landscapes with waterways for growing crops, cliff-carved Buddha statues for praying for good harvests and good health, and numerous stone bridges over rivers for transporting goods. Harajiri Falls, where you can feel the power of nature, is also worth seeing.

You can experience eternal life through Olle walking and cycling.
